We have particular expertise in emerging market projects and the involvement of export credit agencies (ECAs), development finance institutions (DFIs) and multilateral agencies (IFIs). Leadership
Our team is led by Barry N. Machlin, founder and Managing Director. Barry has more than 35 years of experience in the infrastructure and project sector, with a deep expertise in emerging market transactions. He has led or played a central role in transactions involving 70 countries with $60 billion of aggregate value. Many of his transactions have received “Deal of the Year” awards.
Barry has particular expertise in financings involving official agencies and has played a lead role in deals involving more than 20 development finance institutions (DFIs), multilateral agencies (IFIs) and export credit agencies (ECAs). Barry also has advised sovereigns, state-owned enterprises and investors in privatization and cross-border transactions.
Barry is a long-standing Adjunct Professor of International Project Finance and the chair of or participant in numerous project finance, energy sector and international business seminars. Prior to establishing 1645 Advisors, Barry was a partner in the project and international finance groups of both White & Case LLP and Mayer Brown LLP.
Barry has degrees from Harvard Law School (J.D.), Brandeis University (B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and The Roxbury Latin School.
